Linear Actuators

A linear actuator converts the rotary motion of a DC motor into linear motion. This enables objects to be moved precisely along a straight axis.

Depending on the design, linear actuators can achieve peak performance in terms of force, dynamics or accuracy. They are ideal for applications where high linear forces or precise positioning are required in limited installation space.

How Does a Linear Actuator Work?

A linear actuator essentially consists of three components: motor, lead screw and nut. The rotation of the motor causes the lead screw to rotate; the nut is connected to the application and transfers the motion in a linear direction.

In addition, MACCON offers users a variety of options: different thread geometries, various lead screw designs and special hygienic-design versions are available for applications in sensitive areas such as the food and pharmaceutical industries.

RSA Electric Linear Actuators

RSA electric linear rod actuators feature accurate and high force performance, making them ideal for replacing pneumatic & hydraulic cylinders. These electric linear actuators feature acme, ball or roller screw selections, with enhanced high thrust bearings and heavy duty internal bumpers. A rigid, strong aluminum housing allows for easy mounting of switches and sensors. RSA actuators are suitable for general motion control, valve actuation, punch press, injection molding and many more applications.

RSX High Force Electric Linear Actuators

Hydraulic-class electric linear actuators that are roller screw driven, and provide extremely high forces, precision, and long life. Ideal for hydraulic replacement. Forces up to 445 kN.

RSH Hygienic Electric Actuators

316 stainless steel construction and IP69K rating provide an electric rod style actuator ideal for food, beverage, and pharmaceutical machines. Forces up to 35.3 kN.

ERD Electric Cylinder Actuator

Economical electric rod cylinder that is compatible with NEMA & metric mount stepper and servo motors. Ideal for pneumatic replacement. Forces up to 2.2 kN.

Custom Actuators

Especially in direct-drive technology, it often becomes clear that catalog motors alone cannot meet user requirements – frequently because the geometry or specifications regarding environmental conditions do not fit. For such cases, MACCON develops and manufactures custom linear motors.

Hybrid Stepper Motor Linear Actuator

Our partner company Haydon Kerk Motion Solutions offers a unique product line of hybrid stepper motor linear actuators, opening up new possibilities for equipment designers who require high performance and exceptional durability in a very compact package. The various patent-pending designs use a proprietary manufacturing process with engineering thermoplastics in the rotor drive nut and a stainless steel trapezoidal lead screw. This enables the linear actuator to be much quieter, more efficient and more durable than designs using V-threads and bronze nuts, which are commonly used in other linear actuators.

Can-Stack Stepper Motor Linear Actuator

Can-stack stepper motor linear actuators offer both a larger travel range and significantly higher axial load capacity for a given size than was previously available in miniature stepper motors. The patented design from Haydon Kerk Motion Solutions accommodates a larger rotor than conventional units, improves efficiency and eliminates the need for large heat sinks. Unique features provide robustness and reliability, ensuring long service life and consistent performance. Rare-earth magnets are available for even higher axial load capacity. All units are equipped with double ball bearings for improved motion control, precise step accuracy and long service life.
