Encoder

For commutation, digital speed control and precise motor positioning, MACCON offers a wide range of encoder solutions.

Encoders – Position and Angle Measurement Systems

High-quality position and angle measurement systems are used for commutation, digital speed control and precise positioning of our motors. These sensors provide exact information about position and motion, forming the basis for efficient, stable and reliable drive control.

Our portfolio includes position and angle sensors based on three physical measurement principles: electrical, magnetic and optical. Each of these technologies offers specific advantages in terms of accuracy, interference immunity, robustness or compact design.

Depending on the application and environmental conditions, we select the most suitable sensor technology – always with the aim of ensuring maximum performance, long-term reliability and optimal integration into the respective drive system.

Resolvers

Resolvers are inductive angle sensors based on electromagnetic induction and are characterized by extremely robust and reliable measurement performance. They provide analog signals proportional to the angular position of the rotor and are particularly suitable for harsh environments and applications with high demands on reliability and service life.

Unlike optical or magnetic encoders, resolvers are insensitive to dust, moisture, vibration, temperature changes and electromagnetic interference. Thanks to their simple and mechanically stable design, they are often used in drives for aerospace, defence, industrial automation and mobile machinery, where maximum operational reliability is required.

Key Features:

  • Inductive, contactless measuring principle
  • Extremely robust and durable
  • Insensitive to vibration, dirt and temperature
  • Suitable for harsh environmental conditions
  • Analog output signals proportional to angular position

Magnetic Encoders

Magnetic encoders, also known as magnetic rotary encoders, enable highly reliable position and angle measurement based on a contactless, wear-free measuring principle. Thanks to their high robustness, they are suitable for both incremental and absolute position measurement under harsh environmental conditions.

They are highly insensitive to dust, moisture, vibration as well as thermal and mechanical stress. This makes magnetic measurement systems the ideal choice for applications where reliability, durability and stability are essential.

Key Features:

  • Robust, durable design for harsh environments
  • Insensitive to dirt, moisture and temperature fluctuations
  • Contactless, wear-free measuring principle
  • Suitable for incremental and absolute position measurement
  • Reliable performance even under strong mechanical and thermal influences

Optical Encoders

Optical encoders, also known as optical rotary encoders, are characterized by very high positioning and repeatability accuracy as well as excellent signal quality. They are insensitive to magnetic interference and offer significantly higher resolution compared to magnetic encoders. This makes them particularly suitable for applications where precision and signal quality are key.

The measuring principle is based on a code disc or scale mounted on the motor shaft, whose pattern is detected by a light source and detector system. A distinction is made between reflective and transmissive optical encoders, depending on whether the light is reflected or transmitted through the code disc.

Key Features:

  • Very high resolution and signal quality
  • High positioning and repeatability accuracy
  • Insensitive to magnetic interference
  • Reflective or transmissive versions
  • Ideal for precise control and regulation tasks
