Space-rated electric drive systems

MACCON is a manufacturer of motors, drive electronics and rotary / linear encoders for space. Extreme conditions prevail in space. These are extremes of heat/cold, vibration/shock, vacuum and radiation. Nevertheless, the electrical drive technology must function reliably. Space-rated motors

MACCON can supply all types of electric motors and actuators on an electromagnetic basis for use in space. The following list shows the variety of types:

  •     Servo Motors
  •     Torque motors, also single-phase with limited angle
  •     Stepper motors
  •     Reluctance motors (no permanent magnets)
  •     Motors with hollow shaft or with thin stator and rotor rings
  •     Linear motors and solenoid actuators
  •     Rotary and linear solenoids
  •     Complete motors in housing, with encoder, gearbox, including bearings (special lubrication)

Space-rated drive electronics

In addition to our space-rated motors and rotary / linear encoders, we are also developers of space-rated drive electronics. Our drive electronics have already been used on various space satellites. Each project has different requirements, but we rely on established components, materials and architectures that have been successfully used in space projects such as satellites and on the ISS.

Space-rated linear / rotary encoders

MACCON offers six different space-qualified technologies for the acquisition of angle or displacement measurement data: Hall-effect sensors, reluctance resolvers, nonius ring with read-head based on the magnetoresistive principle, inductosyn resolvers as disc pairs, capacitive encoders and inductive encoders.
