SERVOTUBE LINEAR ACTUATOR

The Servotube linear actuator is based on the Servotube linear motor - however the actuator also provides an integrated linear sliding bearing, so that it can directly be used for linear motion without the need for integration into a bearing system. In this respect the Servotube linear actuator is a little bit similar to leadscrew actuators or pneumatic cylinders.

The Servotube linear actuator physically works like a conventional 3-phase brushless linear motor - however here we have a cylindrical design with the magnets contained in the moving rod and the coils wound around the rod. This mechanical configuration leads to a symmetrical design which is free of attraction forces. Another advantage of this configuration is the closed package so that IP67 protection can be achieved.

The biggest advantage of the Servotube Actuator however is the built-in feedback: an industrial standard 1Vp-p sine/cosine signal is derived from the field of the permanent magnets by precise analog hall effects. This signal is fed back to the servo controller and can be used as position feedback. This makes the Servotube Actuators to an easy to user and very cost-effective linear actuator with a repeatability of down to +/-8µm (depending on size).

We also supply motor component only (see Servotube Motors) and ready to use linear modules, where the motor is integrated into a linear bearing system (see Servotube Modules).

To make it easy to use we supply the suitable controllers out of the XENUS and ACCELNET families along with the Servotube motors, actuators and modules:  (see Xenus orr Accelnet Controller). This makes the Servotubes to ready to use plug&play solution as well for single axis applications with indexer operation or ASCII commands by RS-232 interface or for integration into multi axis network solutions (CANopen or EtherCAT).

Here the advantages once again as an overview:

  • high force density: 7 to 276N continuous (46 to 1,860N peak)
  • wide stroke range: up to 318mm (depending on size)
  • integrated feedback (sine/cosine, 1Vss, industrial standard)
    • 25.6mm signal period (resolution 8µm with ACCELNET controller)
    • 51.2mm signal period (resolution 12µm with XENUS controller)
    • 71.2mm signal period (resolution 20µm with XENUS controller)
  • high protection class: IP67 standard (food grade as an option)
  • plug&play: ready to use motorfiles for Xenus/Accelnet-controller, cables etc. available
  • direct drive: dynamic response, precise, no backlash, quiet, no maintenance

Brand new: Servotube Linear Actuator in stainless steel for wash down applications

There is a brand new design of the servotube actuators in stainless steel, ideally suited for applications ins pharmaceutical and food industry; to meet the typical requirements the stainless steel actuator comes with a very smooth surface and meets protection class IP69K. To be compatible to other servo drives the new actuators have been designed in 600V technology and the encoder is a digital incremental encoder plus hall effects. The absolute accuracy is +/-400 µm  and the repeatability is 25µm.

In a first step the ServoTube Hygienic comes in two version – the models XHB3804 and XHB3810 offer maximum forces of 744 and 1860N. The optional watercooling allows a increase of the continuous force of up to 70% for applications with high duty cycle or for operation at high ambient temperatures.
